![]() I get that there's a lot of shit to be responsible for when you suddenly enter adulthood that no one ever told you about, but the reason people here are not being sympathetic is because you come off like an entitled jerk, talking about your huge salary and implying that the state of IL should handle paying your tolls for you. this is generally a good idea when you have any kind of weird account or billing stuff- don't rely on what you see online if you really want to be sure something is not messed up, get someone on the phone and confirm it if you don't want to deal with the consequences/fines later. i would have at least called someone there to confirm that you were all set when setting up the account initially. also, it sounds like you weren't monitoring your debit/credit card for the charges anyway, after a certain amount of time you should have noticed they didn't post and contacted them to see what was up. if you created the account after the charges occurred how would they know? the state of IL is not going to go back through their list of fees every time someone makes a new iPass account to see if they can charge your debit card. Idk, it kind of is unreasonable to assume they would do that work for you. Have them double check all the images to make sure it's actually your car in all of them. Strangely, one or two of the violations I got from that short period where I didn't have an I-PASS were actually not my car. Our customer care centers provide more than 400 permanent jobs for people who are blind, visually impaired, disabled and Veterans, while earning revenues to supplement other Lighthouse programs and servicesĮdit: also, just remembered. Maybe the reason they're so nice is because calls are handled by Chicago Lighthouse? It went from like more than $200 in violations to like $8 for the tolls I actually owed. Then when they did this (I can't remember exactly what it was) but it allowed them to put in a request to exempt the first few violations. With my parents permission, the woman added the I-PASS to my parents account instead of mine temporarily. I explained this to them, and they were pretty understanding. I forgot to get an I-PASS at first when I bought my first car and moved off my parents I-PASS account. That's all you can do with a government agency like this. Just say you want to settle, and your settlement will be set according to the guidelines in the above link. You don't need to mention anything else or give a list of excuses of why you couldn't make your payment. Just call them and tell them you want to settle. They're partly correct, except I-PASS has a set process and guidelines for settlements. Some Redditors mentioned that I-PASS is nice and will usually reduce your fees. Don't bother reading the comments, they're not very helpful. I would have deleted this a long time ago, but I wanted to leave it up for anyone who has a similar issue in the future. I don't understand how this is enough of my fault to where I owe near $1000. I tried to see if I had fines by making an account on their website, and after I didn't see anything there, I figured that I was fine for now. ![]() $928.50 for this? I would have paid this ASAP if I had just known about it. What are my options here? Am I screwed? I know I could have been a little more responsible here, but come on. This added up quick, and I'm just being made aware of it now because I've been away from home, traveling for four months. ![]() They're also saying they'll suspend my driver's license soon. Afterwards, there's a $20 fine per violation. Here's a table basically outlining what I owed when: Original Unpaid Toll Fees I came home for the holidays, and I have letters from the Illinois Tollway. I also figured that they would send me an e-mail or something now that they I had created an account with all my contact information.įast forward to today. I figured that for now I was good, and maybe they were still processing the violations. In fact, there was no record that I had even driven through an I-PASS in June/July. However, I didn't see anything regarding any violations or fees. I ordered an I-PASS transponder and put in my card information so that it could charge me whenever I went through an I-PASS. I didn't want to get screwed over on fees, so I made an account on their website. I had always driven a car under my parents' name so I just didn't really think about it. In early September, I was reminded by a friend about I-PASS and realized that I had never created an account or installed one onto my new car. I drove it around a bit, and then I started traveling for work in late July.
